Coverage by area
Neighborhoods we cover in Mountain View
- 01
Googleplex
Google's headquarters and the heart of Mountain View's tech economy. A plug-and-play gateway means no coordination with campus IT or property managers, just power and wifi.
- 02
Moffett Field Museum
Historic airfield and NASA Ames hub near the bay. Tower signals reach where cable builds are slow, so you're online without waiting for infrastructure.
- 03
Los Altos
Tree-lined streets and older homes where fiber rollout can take years. A multi-carrier gateway gives you high-speed internet the day you move in.
- 04
Mountain View station
Caltrain stop surrounded by apartments and new mixed-use buildings. Renters and first-year residents get unlimited data without an install appointment or annual contract.
- 05
Computer History Museum
Landmark museum on North Shoreline Boulevard in a district of office parks and research facilities. U-wifi covers areas where traditional providers focus on enterprise, not residential.
- 06
Sunnyvale
Neighboring city with a mix of single-family homes and tech offices. If you move between Mountain View and Sunnyvale, pack your gateway and update your address online.
FAQ
Common questions about internet in Mountain View
How much does home internet cost in Mountain View?
U-wifi Home Unlimited is $55 a month anywhere we're live in Mountain View, whether you're in Googleplex, Los Altos or out by Moffett Field Museum. The next-gen gateway, two-day shipping and your first 30 days are free, and there's no contract. Or pay nothing at all with FreeU: watch ads you choose in the U-wifi app and earn credit toward your bill.
How does free internet in Mountain View work?
Every U-wifi customer in Mountain View can switch on FreeU inside the U-wifi app. Our Choice Advertising model lets you pick the ads you see, and watching them earns credit against your monthly service. Watch enough and the $55 is covered. Keep watching past that and you earn U-Bonus points toward merchandise in the U-store. Same gateway, same unlimited data, same speeds.
How fast is U-wifi internet in Mountain View?
Wired speeds in Mountain View vary by street and neighborhood, and even by which side of the block your address falls on. Tower-based speeds depend on your distance from the nearest 5G site and local signal density. U-wifi doesn't tie you to one network. Our gateway picks the strongest 5G signal at your address across the major national carriers and switches if a better one appears, so you get the best speed available in your part of Mountain View at any given hour. For the best signal, put the gateway near a window on the highest floor, facing the nearest tower.
Do wildfires and public safety power shutoffs affect U-wifi service in Mountain View?
Wildfire season, public safety power shutoffs, and winter atmospheric rivers are the main risks in Mountain View. Because U-wifi runs on multiple carrier networks instead of a single cable line, if one tower goes down your gateway shifts to the next available signal. During a major event, service depends on carrier tower power and whether utilities cut electricity to reduce fire risk.
Can I get U-wifi in an apartment in Mountain View?
Yes. Apartment buildings around Mountain View station and Evelyn station get the same plug-and-play setup, no landlord permission required. The gateway plugs into any outlet and works best near a window. No drilling, no antennas on the roof and nothing to remove when you move out. The gateway's wifi covers a typical 2,500 square foot home and supports up to 256 devices, so a one-bedroom or a shared house is fine.
How do I set up U-wifi in Mountain View?
Enter your Mountain View address to confirm coverage, order, and the gateway arrives within two days. Plug it in, find the U-wifi network on your phone or laptop, and enter the password printed on the bottom of the gateway. That's the whole install. No technician, no appointment window, and your first 30 days are a free trial.
What happens if I move within Mountain View?
Pack the gateway, plug it in at the new address and connect as usual. Then sign in to your U-wifi account and update your address. Nothing to return, nothing to reschedule, and the price stays the same.
What areas near Mountain View does U-wifi serve?
U-wifi is live across Mountain View and in Sunnyvale, Palo Alto and Cupertino. Enter your address to confirm availability at your home. If you're on the edge of coverage, the gateway also supports an external antenna for weaker 5G areas.
