FAQ
Common questions about internet in Des Plaines
How much does home internet cost in Des Plaines?
U-wifi Home Unlimited is $55 a month anywhere we're live in Des Plaines, whether you're in Park Ridge, Mount Prospect or out by Rosemont. The next-gen gateway, two-day shipping and your first 30 days are free, and there's no contract. Or pay nothing at all with FreeU: watch ads you choose in the U-wifi app and earn credit toward your bill.
How does free internet in Des Plaines work?
Every U-wifi customer in Des Plaines can switch on FreeU inside the U-wifi app. Our Choice Advertising model lets you pick the ads you see, and watching them earns credit against your monthly service. Watch enough and the $55 is covered. Keep watching past that and you earn U-Bonus points toward merchandise in the U-store. Same gateway, same unlimited data, same speeds.
How fast is U-wifi internet in Des Plaines?
Wired speeds in Des Plaines vary by street and neighborhood, depending on which provider built out your block and when. Our multi-carrier gateway delivers true broadband from whichever tower has the strongest signal at your address. U-wifi doesn't tie you to one network. Our gateway picks the strongest 5G signal at your address across the major national carriers and switches if a better one appears, so you get the best speed available in your part of Des Plaines at any given hour. For the best signal, put the gateway near a window on the highest floor, facing the nearest tower.
Do tornadoes and winter storms affect internet service in Des Plaines?
Des Plaines faces spring severe weather and ice storms, with tornadoes and winter storms as the main risks. Because U-wifi runs on multiple carrier networks instead of a single cable line, if one tower goes down your gateway shifts to the next available one. During a major storm, service depends on carrier tower power, but you're not waiting on a single provider to send a truck.
Can I get U-wifi in an apartment in Des Plaines?
Yes. Apartment buildings near Maine Township and around the Des Plaines Mall get the same plug-and-play setup, no landlord permission required. The gateway plugs into any outlet and works best near a window. No drilling, no antennas on the roof and nothing to remove when you move out. The gateway's wifi covers a typical 2,500 square foot home and supports up to 256 devices, so a one-bedroom or a shared house is fine.
How do I set up U-wifi in Des Plaines?
Enter your Des Plaines address to confirm coverage, order, and the gateway arrives within two days. Plug it in, find the U-wifi network on your phone or laptop, and enter the password printed on the bottom of the gateway. That's the whole install. No technician, no appointment window, and your first 30 days are a free trial.
What happens if I move within Des Plaines?
Pack the gateway, plug it in at the new address and connect as usual. Then sign in to your U-wifi account and update your address. Nothing to return, nothing to reschedule, and the price stays the same.
What areas near Des Plaines does U-wifi serve?
U-wifi is live across Des Plaines and in Mount Prospect, Park Ridge and Glenview. Enter your address to confirm availability at your home. If you're on the edge of coverage, the gateway also supports an external antenna for weaker 5G areas.
