FAQ
Common questions about internet in Overland Park
How much does home internet cost in Overland Park?
U-wifi Home Unlimited is $55 a month anywhere we're live in Overland Park, whether you're in Oak Park Mall, Johnson County Community College or out by Leawood. The next-gen gateway, two-day shipping and your first 30 days are free, and there's no contract. Or pay nothing at all with FreeU: watch ads you choose in the U-wifi app and earn credit toward your bill.
How does free internet in Overland Park work?
Every U-wifi customer in Overland Park can switch on FreeU inside the U-wifi app. Our Choice Advertising model lets you pick the ads you see, and watching them earns credit against your monthly service. Watch enough and the $55 is covered. Keep watching past that and you earn U-Bonus points toward merchandise in the U-store. Same gateway, same unlimited data, same speeds.
How fast is U-wifi internet in Overland Park?
Wired speeds in Overland Park vary by street and neighborhood, depending on which provider built out your block and when. U-wifi delivers true broadband over 5G, and because the gateway picks the strongest carrier signal at your address, performance stays consistent across the city. U-wifi doesn't tie you to one network. Our gateway picks the strongest 5G signal at your address across the major national carriers and switches if a better one appears, so you get the best speed available in your part of Overland Park at any given hour. For the best signal, put the gateway near a window on the highest floor, facing the nearest tower.
Do tornadoes and ice storms affect internet service in Overland Park?
Overland Park sits in tornado alley, and ice storms can take down lines and knock out power across Johnson County. Because U-wifi connects to multiple carrier networks instead of a single cable or fiber line, if one tower goes offline your gateway shifts to another. During a major tornado or ice event, service depends on carrier tower power and backup systems, but you're not waiting on a single provider to restore a neighborhood node or dispatch a repair truck.
Can I get U-wifi in an apartment in Overland Park?
Yes. Apartments around Johnson County Community College and near Oak Park Mall get the same plug-and-play setup: free gateway, free shipping, no technician, no waiting. The gateway plugs into any outlet and works best near a window. No drilling, no antennas on the roof and nothing to remove when you move out. The gateway's wifi covers a typical 2,500 square foot home and supports up to 256 devices, so a one-bedroom or a shared house is fine.
How do I set up U-wifi in Overland Park?
Enter your Overland Park address to confirm coverage, order, and the gateway arrives within two days. Plug it in, find the U-wifi network on your phone or laptop, and enter the password printed on the bottom of the gateway. That's the whole install. No technician, no appointment window, and your first 30 days are a free trial.
What happens if I move within Overland Park?
Pack the gateway, plug it in at the new address and connect as usual. Then sign in to your U-wifi account and update your address. Nothing to return, nothing to reschedule, and the price stays the same.
What areas near Overland Park does U-wifi serve?
U-wifi is live across Overland Park and in Lenexa, Olathe and Shawnee. Enter your address to confirm availability at your home. If you're on the edge of coverage, the gateway also supports an external antenna for weaker 5G areas.
